Wooden Frame Structure of Fire Island House by Arthur Charles Erickson

Fire Island House
This 3,000 square feet summer residence by Arthur Erickson, located on the south side of the island was built on the ever-shifting coastal sand dunes. For this reason, the wood frame structure was constructed on elevated wood decks firmly attached to concrete pilings.

The main feature of the building is a fourteen foot square sliding roof which, when retracted, allows the two storey living room space to be directly open to the sky above.
Solid wall areas as well as the structural frame are clad in naturally weathered cedar boards.
