aka Architecture + Design Inc have designed the contemporary single family home called Whistler Cay Residence located in one of Whistler’s oldest residential neighbourhoods with spectacular views of Whistler, Blackcomb and surrounding mountains.

The Whistler Cay Residence is a 5000 sq. ft. single-family home located in one of Whistler’s oldest residential neighbourhoods with spectacular views of Whistler, Blackcomb and surrounding mountains. The contemporary design incorporates the vernacular materials of the typical Whistler Mountain home but applies them in a modern language with clean and simple gestures that are at once bold yet subtle. The house asserts its presence on the street yet respectfully refers to its context through its warm use of timber, stone and natural cedar wood siding. The grand living spaces feature expansive glass windows that open up to views beyond. Secondary spaces offer smaller framed views while securing privacy from nearby houses.
The steeply sloping site limits the amount of accessible grade so outdoor space is provided instead through a series of generous terraces at all sides and levels of the house. The size and function of each terrace varies according to its view and exposure to natural light. The main terrace is fully covered and equipped with an outdoor fireplace and is intended for year-round usage and social gatherings. The master bedroom is intended for the private use of the owners although it shares the same spectacular views.

On a narrow street of Victorian, working class cottages in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood. Bishop Street Residence is the conversion of a post-industrial building from a graphic design firm to a bachelor’s residence. The dynamic exterior composition consists of a solid material palette of black zinc, grey concrete block, stucco and clear anodized aluminum. Ipe, a sustainably harvested rainforest wood, is incorporated on the gate to the garden at the front entrance, for garden walls, and the deck to bring warm, natural touches to the project.
The ground floor integrates the living room, dining room and kitchen in one open space. White walls and ceilings with black feature walls showcases the owner’s extensive collection of furniture, photography, lighting, and sculpture. In the dining room, a custom wine cooler is encased by floor to ceiling glass that creates illusions of floating wine bottles inside clear plexiglass boxes.
Blackened steel lines the staircase and continues to the upper hall floor, where a glass floor slot runs directly below one of the linear skylights, drawing more light onto the ground floor. The master bedroom is surrounded by glass walls that overlook the double-height living room. Via

Minimalist Spatial Resolution Interior Design of Olympic Tower Residence

This 49th floor apartment occupies a 1,800 square foot corner site overlooking Fifth Avenue at Rockefeller Center. The client, a German professional couple, envisioned a living environment of formal clarity and spatial harmony as an urban sanctuary for their frequent visits to New York City.
This interior renovation project illustrates a new level of refinement in minimalist spatial resolution. The design concept called for creating a crystalline light volume within the black tower monolith for observing the metropolitan landscape. White plaster, honed Yugoslavian Sivec marble, and matte translucent optical glass compose the elemental material palette that frames the space. An open helical plan anchored by the fulcrum of a central tectonic media pier permits the subtle articulation of study, living, dining, and master bedroom areas against panoramic full-height windows. An illuminated glass wall, both sides of which support a white enameled server, separates the kitchen from the dining area.
The master bathroom inspires a heightened awareness of the pleasures of the bathing experience. Forming an interlocking volume within the master bedroom and raised on a stone platform, it is distinguished by a monolithic carved marble bathtub from which the Empire State Building and downtown Manhattan can be viewed through an optical clear glass panel. Two custom-carved marble sinks – an elliptical sink adjacent to the tub and a cantilevered gravity sink – balance the proportions and geometry of the composition.
The lighting concept takes advantage of abundant natural light to connect the interior environment to the atmosphere beyond the surface of the windows. Sensors gradually adjust interior light levels in response to variations in natural light levels, negotiating transitions between daylight, twilight, and nightlight. Large-dimension, motorized solar shades offer privacy and additional control over sunlight penetration.
A transcendent, elemental purity throughout the apartment shapes the interplay of light, form, and material within a minimal envelope. Olympic Tower Residence designed by GABELLINI SHEPPARD ASSOCIATES LLP, Architecture and Design.

This Park Avenue apartment occupies a corner Manhattan site on Park Avenue with four exposures and three gracious terraces. The design concept was to create a serene, horizontal spatial field defined by white french plaster ceilings and walls and a continuous honed Arria limestone floor. The spaces required by the program were defined by the existing perimeter walls and discrete free-standing volumes placed within the interior. The main living spaces, the study and the master bedroom, are treated as courtyards articulated by black volumes of ribbon mahogany and are illuminated by the glowing light volumes of three translucent glass enclosed bathrooms.
