Rustic Canyon Residence - modern contemporary ranch dwelling by GRIFFIN ENRIGHT ARCHITECTS

Rustic Canyon Residence - modern contemporary ranch dwelling

The Rustic Canyon Residence project set out to invert the conventional means of organizing a single family home, taking an existing, highly compartmentalized ranch dwelling and converting it in to a contemporary space for living that allows for expansive open spaces and a welcoming, informal atmosphere. Above these spaces, an existing pitched roof is cut laterally and folded back up in order to blend the interior with the landscape. This blurring internalizes a hillside garden where an existing, 300 year old Sycamore tree becomes the new centerpiece of the expanded house. While the public areas are open and blend seamlessly with one another, the Library trades openness and informality for introspection and tranquility, anchored by a fireplace that floats in glass with the hillside and ancient tree just beyond. This contemporary Triangle wooden house located in Nesodden, Norway designed by Norwegian architects Jarmund/Vigsnaes AS Architects MNAL, the house is situated with views towards the sea between the branches of the surrounding pine forest. The permitted aerial building lines define the plan and even the heights of the roofline. The modern Norwegian house boasts a triangular shape that really sets this design apart. Wood panels alternate between horizontal and vertical, defining each of the home’s three storeys. The exterior views are singularly framed by the window openings, closely related to individual spaces, the interior is treated in a more fluent way with overlapping sequences of space and light in section and plan. This duality of focal and flow is the theme of the building. Via

The modernist office interior design in the forest or high with serenity, surrounded by nature, like rustic sophistication.

Jose Selgas and Lucia Cano, both architects at the firm, have designed a marvelous building. It’s a simple, one-story tunnel. A giant Wiimote among the trees. Half of the curved roof, the side facing north, is transparent; the other half is opaque. Naturally, the employees’ desks are under the opaque half as to stay out of the sun. The interior’s lime green and yellow wood boards intensify the foliage seen through the window — most of the year, anyway. The studio doesn’t try to blend in or commune with nature the way a log cabin or stone house does. But because it’s so bunker-like (it’s lower than nearby tree branches), it somehow isn’t too disruptive. It’s not trying to make a scene, which is very refreshing. The commute must be pleasant too.
