This 5000sf lakeside house draws inspiration from the sensation of being sheltered underneath tree canopies. Working in collaboration with Guy Nordenson and Associates Engineers, DB developed a unique structural system of long-span, “x16″x27″ plywood joists, which work in tandem with a series of concealed Verendiel trusses that rest on slender 2″x4″ sold gunmetal columns. This hybrid system allows for the heavier copper and red cedar-clad second floor to float above an almost entirely glassed-in and transparent ground floor, presenting the house as a manmade alternative to the surrounding trees.
