The Klinik Hair Salon located in Clerkenwell, East London and designed by Block Architecture, and completed in 1998. The project influence was drawn from medical environments to create a pure utilitarian space based around self-consciousness and vanity. CCTV cameras were positioned above each chair with monitors below each mirror that allow customers to see on the back during the cutting process took place. The waiting bench and furniture accessories using a bench waiting for a hybrid of the psychiatrist’s chaise-longue and a generic hospital bed, nostalgic lounge analog clock, White leather and steel tube consciously chosen, describing the process as either a monthly discussion with your ‘therapist’ or as a sterile and detached cosmetic operation.
