This beautiful design of vacation retreat, located on an extraordinary beachfront setting, close to Whidbey Island and Mukilteo, was designed as two separate buildings of CB cement board and cedar channel siding in a small footprint, 2,300 square feet—one for living and eating, and the other for sleeping. The separate bedroom wing provides extra privacy, so late-night entertaining does not disturb sleeping children or weary parents, as the case may be. Extensive water views, generous decks, and the sheltering orientation of the two buildings contribute to a fluid relationship between living areas and the surrounding seascape. The entire home looks larger with decks that wrap everywhere and provide flow between the two structures. A concrete wall to the north with three vertical beach-view cutouts blocks the wind and the neighbor’s view. Designed by Bjarko Serra Architects.
